Boys? Girls? Somewhere in between? So many cute options, how do you decide? What are the signs you’re bisexual? Figuring out who you are, what you want and who you like can be confusing.
If you think you might be the “B” in the 2SLGBTQIA+ acronym (you’re reading this blog post after all), you may be feeling a whole lot of feelings – confusion, anxiety, and maybe even excitement. All are perfectly normal.
In this blog post, we will go over what bisexuality is, before jumping into the signs you might be bisexual.
What is bisexuality?
Okay, before we get into the signs, what does it mean to be bisexual (aka bi)?
Bisexuality is, simply put, being interested (romantically, sexually or both) in more than one gender. That’s it. You might like boys and girls. Or boys and non-binary folks. Or girls and gender-fluid babes.
But no matter who you like, to identify as bisexual, all you need to be is interested in more than one gender.
Wait…what about pansexuality?
Okay, so a lot of people mix these two labels up. And while bisexuality and pansexuality share some similarities, they are a little bit different. What’s the difference?
Bisexuality means you’re attracted to more than one gender, whereas pansexuality means you’re attracted to people of ALL genders.
If you’re bi, you may be attracted to a few genders, but not all of them (although you can be). If you’re pan, you most likely find every gender attractive or just don’t factor gender into whether you’re attracted to someone you like.
Which label you go with is entirely up to you and can most definitely change over time. I initially started with the bisexual label but switched over to pansexual because I liked it more. Pick the label that feels right to you.
Now, here are the signs you might be bisexual.
Here are the signs you’re bisexual:
You like both genders in movies and TV shows
Ross and Rachel…Jim and Pam…Chuck and Blair. If you catch yourself crushing on not just one but both co-stars in your favourite TV shows, chances are, you’re bisexual.
The label feels right
Bi. Bisexual. Bisexuality. When you hear the label, you like the idea of it. When you say it to yourself, you like how it feels. If you’re trying out the bi label and it feels good to you, you might be bi.
You like different kinds of porn
Now this doesn’t necessarily mean you’re bi because you might just be curious, but it might be. If you find that certain genres of porn do it for you or even find yourself into porn stars no matter their gender, there’s a chance you might be bi.
You fantasize about different genders
On that note, when you touch yourself, who do you find yourself thinking about? Girls? Boys? Non-binary folks? All of the above? If you fantasize about more than one gender, it’s probably fair to say you’re bisexual.
You feel connected to other bi/queer people
Do you have a lot of friends that are bi or part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community? Or do you feel a sense of pride or happiness when a TV show character you like comes out as bi? This could be a sign.
You’re drawn to more bi/queer celebrities
Halsey. Dove Cameron. Lili Reinhart. Stephanie Beatriz. Brendon Urie. Auli’i Cravalho. Aubrey Plaza. David Bowie. Freddie Mercury. Phoebe Bridgers. You can’t quite put your finger on it, but you really like them. If you find yourself drawn to bisexual and/or queer celebrities but you’re not sure why, it might be because you’re bi.
You’ve had some confusing friendships
Maybe you thought you only liked boys. But then last summer, you started catching feelings for one of your girlfriends. Or maybe you thought you only liked girls, but you can’t seem to get that guy friend off your mind. If you have had some friendships that have left you feeling a little bit confused, there’s probably a good chance you’re bi.
You feel angry/upset when people stereotype bi people
“Bisexuals are so greedy.” “Bisexuality’s not real – she’s just experimenting.” If you overhear people making these kinds of mean comments and you find yourself getting really angry or upset (and not just in a normal ally kind of way), you yourself may be bisexual.
You can picture yourself with different genders long-term
Okay, let’s imagine we’re at your future wedding for a second. Who’s waiting for you at the end of the aisle? A man? A woman? A non-binary babe? A gender-fluid sweetie? Does it matter? If you can see more than one gender at the altar and you’re actually open to the idea of it, you might be bi.
You take the quizzes and do the research
“Am I bi quiz?” “Signs I’m bisexual?” “How to know if I’m bisexual?” Does your browser history have a lot of searches like this? If you spend hours researching bisexuality and taking those bisexual quizzes over and over again, it’s probably pretty likely that you’re under the bisexual umbrella.
You’re reading this
There’s this saying one of my queer friends says: “If you think you are, you probably are.” If you’re reading this blog post, there’s probably a good chance you’re bi.
Final thoughts on the signs you’re bisexual
Add up your scores and see where you get? Did you identify with all or lots of the signs on the list? Congrats, you’re probably bi! Here are some tips for the next steps you can take.
Still not sure? That’s totally okay too. Figuring out who you are and what label you identify with is a process and may take some time. At the end of the day, if you like the bi label and want to be bi, then you are bi.
